The AP4430A is an APC NetShelter Rack Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) — a key component in fault-tolerant power architectures. It accepts two independent power inputs (A and B feeds) and automatically transfers to the secondary input if the primary fails. Transfer time is under 10 milliseconds — fast enough to be invisible to virtually all connected equipment.
Why a Rack ATS
Most servers, switches, and other rack equipment have a single power supply (single-corded loads). In a redundant power architecture with two UPS feeds (A+B), single-corded equipment can only connect to one feed — defeating the redundancy. A Rack ATS solves this: two upstream feeds in, one downstream feed to single-corded equipment, automatic transfer to whichever input is healthy.
