Description
APC Smart-UPS SMTL SMTL2200RM2UCNC — 2200VA Line-Interactive UPS with Lithium-Ion Battery
The SMTL2200RM2UCNC delivers 2200VA / 1980W of line-interactive pure sine wave power with one critical difference from the standard SMT series: lithium-ion battery chemistry instead of lead-acid. Same Smart-UPS topology, dramatically different battery economics over the life of the unit.
Lithium-Ion vs. Lead-Acid: What Changes
| Factor | Standard SMT (Lead-Acid) | SMTL (Lithium-Ion) |
|---|---|---|
| Typical Battery Service Life | 3-4 years | 5+ years |
| Weight | Baseline | Up to 55% lighter |
| Operating Temperature Range | 0-40°C | -5-45°C (wider) |
| Recharge Time | 4-6 hours | ~3 hours |
| Per-Unit Battery Replacements (10yr) | 2-3 | 0-1 |
Where Lithium-Ion Justifies the Premium
For single-UPS deployments in temperate environments, the cost of lithium-ion may not justify itself. For fleet deployments, remote sites without on-site IT, hot environments (closets without active cooling, manufacturing floors, southern climates), or where the cost of dispatching a technician for battery swaps exceeds the UPS hardware delta — lithium-ion changes the TCO equation significantly.
Key Features
- Lithium-Ion Battery Technology: 5+ year service life with minimal maintenance.
- Same Smart-UPS Line-Interactive Topology: Pure sine wave output, AVR, LCD diagnostics.
- Up to 55% Lighter: Reduces shipping costs, rack weight, and physical handling burden during installation and swaps.
- SmartConnect + AP9641 NMC3 included: Cloud-based remote management through the APC SmartConnect portal eliminates the need for VPN access to monitor individual UPS units across multiple sites.
- Wider Operating Temperature Range: Tolerates warmer environments where lead-acid battery life degrades rapidly.
- Faster Recharge: Returns to full charge in roughly half the time of lead-acid, improving readiness for back-to-back power events.

Ideal Applications
- Multi-Site Deployments: Fleet UPS rollouts where reducing service-truck dispatches for battery swaps drives TCO.
- Remote and Lights-Out Sites: Edge compute, branch offices, and unattended facilities where battery maintenance is operationally expensive.
- Warm Environments: Network closets without dedicated cooling, southern climates, manufacturing floors where lead-acid life shortens dramatically.
- Healthcare and Government: Where reduced battery maintenance windows and longer service intervals match operational constraints.
- Weight-Sensitive Installations: Wall-mount enclosures, upper-rack positions, and weight-restricted environments.
Lithium-Ion vs. Lead-Acid — Questyme Runs the TCO Math
Whether SMTL pays off vs. standard SMT depends on your specific deployment: number of units, replacement labor costs, ambient temperature, expected service life. Questyme will run a side-by-side TCO comparison for your environment before you decide. Contact Questyme for a TCO analysis.
